Cool and wet July weather impacting area gardens

After a dry month of May, June and July have been wetter and cooler than normal. Although that's mostly positive, people are beginning to show up at garden centers with problem plants.

Plants that have developed diseases brought on by too much moisture. Steve Smith with Southwood Landscape and Nursery: "Probably of the diseases that are most prevalent when people bring samples is powdery mildew, honey suckle, crape myrtle a lot of bedding plants are getting it."

Smith says it'll take a couple of applications of an anti-fungal spray to get rid of it, but you can't spray until the rain stops.

In some parts of town he says plants are thriving because the soil drains well, but in south Tulsa's heavy clay soil some bedding plants dying from too much water.
