A proposed ordinance in Vinita to change the law regarding ownership of pit bull dogs has stalled.

According to state law, Vinita's city attorney says they are not allowed to be "breed specific" when changing ordinances regarding vicious dogs. The city decided to change the ordinance after six people were injured in pit bull attacks recently.

Vinita's city attorney and police chief are working on a new proposed ordinance that falls within state law. That proposal will be presented at the August 3rd city council meeting.
