The chilling effect of weather on Tulsa area businesses. Who wouldn't like this cool July we've been having?
Well as News on 6 business reporter Steve Berg explains, there are a few and with good reason.
The wind, the rain, the perfect day for the water park. It's tough to tell if kids at Big Splash are frolicking or just freezing. Steve Berg: "What do you guys think about this weather? Kids: "its cold, it's COLD."
It's been rainy and cold all summer long; of at least it seems like that. Lisa Gerow says she brings the kids to Big Splash one day per summer and as luck would have it, bad luck, it's Wednesday. "I'd normally be in the pool playing with them.†Steve Berg: "But not interested today?" Lisa: "No."
“I think we'll still get some triple digit days, it's just when are they going to come?" At Freckles Frozen Custard, Don McKinney says their motto is more sun, more freckles, but sales have paled a bit. The cool weather is bad enough. Freckles business is down 10% to 15%.
Big Splash has been down as much as 50%. Ordinarily, you would not be comfortable in a shirt and tie on a day like Wednesday and ordinarily you would have to fight for a lounge chair, but not this Wednesday.
On this cloudy day though they're still looking at the bright side. Steve Berg: "Is it still fun out here?" Kids: "YEAH! The lines are shorter!"
