(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A charity founded by state Insurance Commissioner Carroll Fisher received many donations from companies he regulated.
Fisher created the Fisher Foundation as a charity to provide shoes to needy children. He now faces a felony charge for allegedly operating the charity illegally.
The charity has raised more than $54,000. More than $21,000 came from three golf tournaments organized by insurance adjusters and about $18,000 were donated by various insurance companies.
Fisher says he did not solicit the contributions and isn't influenced by them.
In addition to the felony charge against Fisher, a House committee is investigating whether he should be impeached.
Fisher is also running for the Democratic nomination to the US Senate.
