Part of a southeastern Oklahoma road is renamed in honor of a Highway Patrol trooper killed during a drug raid. Family members, troopers and lawmakers gathered yesterday to dedicate the Trooper David Rocky Eales Memorial Highway. The renamed portion of Oklahoma Highway 1 stretches from the Indian Nation Turnpike to U-S Highway 69 near McAlester.

Eales was killed in September 1999 while he and other members of a law enforcement tactical team served a "no-knock" warrant at the rural home of Kenneth Eugene Barrett near Sallisaw.

Eales was shot and killed in the raid. Barrett was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in Eales' death and sentenced earlier this year to 30 years in prison.
