Two firefighters sustained minor injuries when part of a roof collapsed as they helped battle a blaze from inside a Midtown Tulsa church.

Officials say this fire may be a sign of the season. Several Tulsa fire companies were called to the Iglesia Christian Evangelica Church shortly after 7:00 Saturday evening.

The News on Six brought you the first images of the fire from our skycam network flames and plumes of smoke could be seen pouring from the roof of the church.

"We made an interior attack we had a partial roof collapse onto firefighters. Firefighters were able to escape with minor injuries."

Witnesses reported hearing fireworks from the church moments before it caught fire.

"I heard 'em back this way and that's all I know."

Officials say there were people inside the church when the fire broke out but all of them were able to escape without injuries.

"We have been not been able to do a thorough search because of the roof collapse and some of the fire still burning inside the structure."

Investigators are looking into whether fireworks are to blame but the 4th of July favorites and the intense heat are two good reasons this is a difficult time of year.
