The Tulsa City Council heard arguments Thursday night, for and against annexing part of north Tulsa County.
Despite the debate, there was no vote. A procedural mistake kept the council from voting.
But that didn't stop nearly 20 residents and business owners from speaking out. Most of them are against the city expanding to include 23 square miles north of the city.
Mayor Bill LaFortune favors the plan, saying it's the only way to make the city grow. He wants the council to act now, before a new law goes into effect that would require voters to decide. Folks on-hand say they'd welcome a vote, because they don't think it would pass. "In short, this area, now within our fence line, could be lost forever for Tulsa's future growth."
The city council will take up the issue again sometime this month.
