The folks in Broken Arrow have a new tool to track crime in their neighborhoods. The Broken Arrow Police Department launched crime mapping on its web site Thursday.

News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson says Broken Arrow crime statistics are now just a mouse click away. Folks can go online, pick a section of town and map the crimes that occurred in that area. Broken Arrow Police say it's something folks have asked for repeatedly over the years.

Police say the crime mapping program is user-friendly and you can access it through the police department's web site at www.bapolice.org. You can map a number of crimes, from meth labs to burglaries. The program also tracks the location of sex offenders.

Broken Arrow Police Captain Paul Kroutter: "I think it will hopefully provide them with additional information where they're more knowledgeable about what’s going on in Broken Arrow and in their neighborhood."

The Tulsa Police Department has offered crime mapping on their web site for almost four years. They say about 1,200 maps are made every month.
