Some Tulsa firefighters are better trained for water rescues. Several of them spent the day at Tulsa’s Lake Yahola.
They've already spent time in the classroom for a boating safety course. Wednesday, they learned the basics of the boats and how to handle them and even the basics of backing a trailer with a boat.
Tulsa Fire Academy Captain Michael Thompson: "Again it's all based on making people more efficient and effective on emergency scenes."
Firefighters get as many as six water rescue calls on the Arkansas River during the summertime.
Wednesday's training prepares them for lake, river or flooding rescues.
