The News on 6 is hoping to Raise the Grade book by book. Kids who read well do better in school.

That's why the News on 6 has joined our sister station in Oklahoma City, KWTV, to give books to children all across the state this summer.

News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson explains how a few local volunteers and a big red dog are making that happen.

With the lure of video games and television, many books are getting left on the shelf. Some local volunteers tried to bring books to life for some Green Country kids Tuesday. Volunteers from the Bank of Oklahoma spent their lunch hour reading to kids at the Sand Springs Boys and Girls Club.

Dozens of students gathered for an old-fashioned story hour. They even got a visit from a children's book favorite, Clifford the dog.

Volunteer Rebecca Goff says she reads to her son every night. And she thinks parents shouldn't underestimate the impact of story time. "I definitely think its something more parents need to do with their kids. First of all its quality time that can never be taken away. Memories are built because you took 15 minutes to read them a book.”

The Book by Book drive runs through the end of this month. Simply drop off new or gently used books at any Bank of Oklahoma branch in the state.
