You can experience a day in the life of a Maasai, without ever leaving Oklahoma. A new exhibit at the Tulsa Zoo consists of three huts representing the tradition of the Maasai culture of Tanzania.
The huts contain authentic artifacts collected from Africa. The purpose of the exhibit is to give zoo visitors a chance to experience the culture of the Maasai, a group that has not adopted western ways and still live according to the traditions of their ancestors.
The exhibit officially opens to the public on Saturday. Funds from the 2001 Waltz On The Wild Side helped finance the new exhibit.
By the way, this year's Waltz On The Wild Side will benefit the Asian elephants. It’s set for Friday, June 18th, and tickets are still available. Call the Tulsa Zoo at 669-6608 for more information.
