(Lubbock-AP) -- Texas Tech basketball coach Bob Knight has agreed in principle to a three-year contract extension.
Tech athletic director Gerald Myers today announced the agreement that would keep Knight at the school in Lubbock through the 2009 season.
Myers declined to release details, but says the contract likely will be signed by the Hall of Fame coach and school officials next week.
Knight's base salary in his current contract is 250-thousand dollars and runs through May of 2006.
Myers says Knight has done a great job turning everything around at Tech.
Knight is on a fishing vacation in Canada and was unavailable to comment today.
He will begin his fourth season at Tech _ his 39th overall _ this fall with 832 wins.
Knight was hired by Tech in March of 2001, six months after he was fired by Indiana.
