The world has come to Sand Springs, at least at Angus Valley Elementary School. The children there held their own Olympic Games Friday, beginning with an opening ceremony.

All month, each class has been studying about one particular country. Thursday, they traveled from classroom to classroom, visiting those far-away places. Friday, they marched as their adopted countries, ready to compete in the spirit of the Olympic Games.

Principal Judy Ballard: "And we stress all of the things that are important in sportsmanship, citizenship and participation.”

Angus Valley only does this every four years, just like the real Olympics. And after the torch was lit, the kids spent the day in competition with medals for things like hula hooping, bubble-gum blowing and tricycle races.
