It looks like Tulsa’s Git-N-Go stores will become a thing of the past. The convenience store chain has been in bankruptcy the past few months.
Thursday, a bankruptcy judge approved a tentative deal for another chain called Kum and Go to buy out the Git-N-Go stores. As News on 6 business reporter Steve Berg tells us, it's not clear how many will be bought, but the Git-N-Go name will be gone.
Tulsa residents, like Jenette Royster, who have long been used to seeing the familiar Git-N-Go logo feel a little nostalgic about the news. "I think it's sad to see Git-N-Go go, they've been around for a long time."
The Iowa-based Kum and Go chain, which currently has just a handful of stores in Oklahoma, has permission from the bankruptcy court to finish a buyout deal with Git-N-Go for as many stores as the two can agree on. Officials with Kum and Go say they'll have to take each of these locations on a case by case basis.
They say they might buy some of the stores that have been closed but at the same time though they might not buy all the stores that are still open. Kum and Go President Kyle Krause: "Right now, there are 76 open stores and our desire would be to take as many of those stores as possible going forward and of the 36 closed stores, contact those landlords and see if we're a logical tenant for them."
Passersby hope they are to get rid of the eyesores. Tim Aaronson: "That's not very attractive and it's not bringing any tax revenues to the community, what's the good of it if it's boarded up like that."
Kum and Go has certainly enjoyed more success than Git-N-Go, growing by 122 stores in 1998 alone. And likely will be adding a few dozen here in Tulsa this year.
