(Terre Haute, Indiana-AP) -- An adviser to a federal death row inmate from Oklahoma says the man is helping plan anti-death penalty demonstrations for his execution.
David Paul Hammer is to die June 8th at the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, for killing his cellmate in a federal prison in Pennsylvania.
Sister Rita Clare Gerardot says Hammer is catching up on correspondence and praying. She says he's also involved in planning a march and other anti-death penalty activities on June 7th and 8th.
Hammer was sent to the Pennsylvania prison after escaping from the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in the 1980s. He was serving more than 1,200 years in Oklahoma for crimes including kidnapping and attempted murder.
Hammer was also once listed as a defense witness for Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols. Hammer says bomber Timothy McVeigh told him the names of other bombing conspirators when they served time together before McVeigh's execution.
