(Oklahoma City-AP) -- MCI will honor its agreement to add 1,600 jobs in Tulsa over the next decade.

That's despite the telecommunications company's announcement Monday that it will get rid of 7,500 jobs this year.

MCI blames the cutback on weak revenues.

It promised two months ago to add jobs in Tulsa as part of a settlement of state fraud charges.

MCI made the settlement so Oklahoma would dismiss charges of 15 violations of securities laws.

The charges stem from an accounting scandal that plunged the company into the biggest bankruptcy in US history. The company used to be called WorldCom.

MCI has about 2,000 employees in Oklahoma.
