(Norman-AP) -- University of Oklahoma students will pay 7% more to live and eat on campus starting in July.
The OU Board of Regents approved the higher fees Friday.
Officials say the increase is needed to pay for higher utility costs and raises for dorm and kitchen staffs.
The extra money will also renovate Walker and Adams towers, which were completed in 1967.
360 new rooms will be added on campus.
The rent for a double-occupancy room in Walker, Adams or Couch towers will rise about a hundred dollars to $1,463 per semester. The single-occupancy room rate will increase about $150 to $2,318.
Higher rates for the residence halls will take effect August 18th, and a five percent increase for OU apartments will take effect July 1st.
