Researchers at the University of Tulsa have developed computer software they hope will block Internet users from illegally sharing audio or video files.

It was developed by computer science professor John Hale and doctoral candidate Gavin Manes. Instead of downloading a new song, the software downloads an advertisement.

The university has been awarded a patent for the software.
