(Norman-AP) -- Kansas State's men and Texas A&M's women hold the team lead after the opening day of the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Norman.
The teams didn't win either event they competed in Thursday night, but Kansas State got 24 points by grabbing three of the top six spots in the hammer throw and a second place finish in the 10,000-meter run.
A victory in the hammer throw competition by Issuer Yazhbin put Nebraska in second place with 10 points.
The Aggies won two of the three women's events, posting the top four finishers in the javelin and also producing the 10,000-meter winner, Melissa Gulli.
With 40 points, Texas A&M holds a 24-point lead over second place Missouri, which got a victory in the hammer throw from Holly Scherder.
Competition resumes Friday and three more finals will take place in field events for men and women.
The meet wraps up Saturday.
