(McAlester-AP) -- The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations is accusing the Haileyville mayor of embezzlement.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was asked on March 18th to investigate Mike James.

Now it plans to present the allegation to the Pittsburg County District Attorney's office.

James told the McAlester News-Capital and Democrat he thinks the allegation will be a personal vendetta.

Acting Haileyville Police Chief Larry Burgess says James allegedly let at least one person receive city water for free and illegally voided tickets.

Burgess says that after an April eighth Haileyville City Council executive session, James was ordered to give up a charge card used to buy gasoline. City council members ordered all city charge cards to be returned.
