Some Claremore firefighters are trying to convince the town's city council to rehire some of their colleagues.

Six Claremore firefighters were laid off in November when the city said it couldn't afford to pay them. The short-staffed fire department has some residents worried.

The firefighters still on the job presented a petition to Claremore's city council Monday night. City law says the petition can't be discussed for at least 48 hours.
