An Oklahoma judge has refused a deferred sentence to an Enid veterinarian convicted of eight counts of animal cruelty.

Jess Brewer was convicted of letting horses starve under his care in 2002. A jury recommended a $500 fine on each count. Brewer's felony convictions could endanger his veterinarian's license and insurance.

Brewer says another man was responsible for feeding the horses.
