(Enid-AP) -- A Garfield County jailer is recovering from minor injuries after an inmate overpowered him and stabbed him several times with a home-made shank.
Inmate Arturo Talamantes overpowered a jailer while he was out of his maximum security cell Sunday morning for a shower.
Undersheriff Jerry Niles says authorities subdued Talamantes as he was trying to release another inmate with keys he had taken from the jailer.
The jailer's name has not been released.
Police stopped Talamantes with a Taser gun after he appeared to raise a weapon when approaching a police officer.
Talamantes could face charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a corrections officer, assault on a police officer and attempted escape.
Talamantes has been incarcerated in lieu of $500,000 bond since July 7th, when he was arrested in connection with the robbery of an Enid convenience store.
