The US Department of Justice is intervening in a lawsuit pending against the Muskogee School district.
6th grader Tallah Hearn was suspended twice for wearing her Muslim headscarf to school. School officials say it's a dress code violation, but Hearn's family says it’s a part of their religion. Hearn was allowed back in school after an agreement with the district that allowed her to wear the headscarf.
The Justice Department said Tuesday that religious discrimination has no place in American schools.
