(Edmond-AP) -- An assistant professor at the University of Central Oklahoma is promising more than 100-thousand dollars to establish an endowed scholarship program.

Geology professor Ed Pugh is establishing the Pugh Family Pioneer Awards scholarship. It will provide 500-dollars to students studying geography, history, sociology, music or elementary education.

The awards are named for Edward and Sidonia Pugh, who came to Oklahoma during the 1889 Land Run.
