(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The driver of a pickup and his passenger are both dead Thursday following a pursuit by US Marshals and Oklahoma County sheriff's deputies.

The officials were trying to serve five felony warrants for drug trafficking on the passenger when the passenger shot the driver.

Then, the passenger opened fire on law enforcement officers, wounding one deputy. Officers returned fire, killing the passenger.

The sheriff's deputy is being treated for a shot through his ear. Sheriff John Whetsel says the deputy is in good condition.

Elementary students on a nearby school bus were taken to a school down the street. None of the students was hurt.
