A couple of fires displaced several people early Monday. Crews were called to a home in the 500 block of 500 East 59th Street around 10:30 PM Sunday.

The fire was quickly put out, but it caused $15,000 in damage.
Careless smoking is blamed. Another fire, moments later at 9th and Vandalia caused about $10,000 in damage. Authorities say some people were listening to music and burning incense when a comforter caught fire.

No one was hurt in either fire.
