(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A state lawmaker says a tax deduction might get Oklahomans to take better care of themselves.
Representative Lucky Lamons is proposing a state income tax deduction for membership dues to fitness centers.
Preliminary estimates indicate the deduction would cost $8 to $10-million.
Lamons says obesity is now a critical public health issue and more needs to be done to encourage healthy habits.
Lamons is a former Tulsa police officer and was the fitness coordinator for the Tulsa Police Department. He's also competed in 13 marathons.
