(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Oklahoma City police say a man shot and killed by an officer last week was wanted for a 1992 homicide in the city.

Police say Cesar Leopold Garcia was shot by officer Kevin Barnes last Friday after Garcia fought with another officer and took his gun following a police chase.

Captain Jeff Becker says Garcia was also known as Cesar Gonzalez and was wanted in the May 1992 death of Johnny Vasquez senior. Witnesses told police the two men were involved in a dispute and Garcia ran over Vasquez with a van.

Police believe Garcia then went to Mexico until returning to the Oklahoma City area about five months ago.
