A former Duncan firefighter has confessed he shot and killed an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper.

Rick Malone is charged with the murder of Trooper Nikky Green on December 26th. Green was investigating a suspicious car on a rural road when he was killed. Court documents show Malone confessed the day after his arrest for a drug charge.

Investigators say a handcuff key was recovered from Malone. He apparently swallowed it as deputies tried to get it out of Malone's mouth last week.

Prosecutors say they will ask for the death penalty.
