Tulsa's trash-to-energy plant is a step closer to being back in business. The city resumed its garbage shipments Friday at the former Covanta plant.
Covanta is scheduled to start turning the city's trash into steam again today. Under a new agreement, the city of Tulsa will deliver trash to the plant until 2007 and Sunoco will continue to purchase the steam for its operations.
The plant shut down in late September when Covanta said its contracts with the plant's owner were not profitable. A bankruptcy judge has transferred contracts back to the plant owner.
The new Colorado-based operator is expected to be burning at full capacity by the end of next week.
