(Tucson, Arizona-AP) -- An Arizona newspaper report says Oklahoma co-defensive coordinator Mike Stoops is the top candidate for the head coaching job at Arizona.

Stoops has said he's interested in the job and the newspaper says he's spoken informally to Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood.

He's the brother of OU coach Bob Stoops and is credited with helping build national powers at both Kansas State and Oklahoma.

Arizona is looking for a coach to replace John Mackovic, who was fired September 2nd.
