Restaurant insiders say Tulsa is home to one of the fastest growing restaurant franchises in the world.
Camille's Sidewalk Cafe is taking its signature wraps and smoothies from coast to coast. News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson has more on the Camille’s craze sweeping the nation.
Camille's Sidewalk Cafe started as a kiosk wedged beneath an escalator at Woodland Hills Mall about seven years ago. Now, there are 26 cafes across the country, with 20 more coming this year.
Camille's has capitalized on the popularity of health food, offering salads, wraps and smoothies. The menu proved to be a recipe for success. The company has grown in worth from $2.5-million to $25-million in just two years. And its catapulted founders David and Camille Rutkauskas into the national spotlight in the franchise world.
They've since sold the Woodland Hills location and another at 61st and Yale, and built a cafe on South Riverside Drive, which is the model for future franchises across the United States. David Rutkauskas says succeeding in the fickle restaurant business comes down to one thing. "We have passion and I believe we can will anything to succeed if you want it to succeed I really believe that."
With the rapid growth of the company, David and Camille have had several offers to move to other cities or merge with competitors.
