A proposal to build a private hospital in Muskogee has raised concerns that the city-operated hospital could be forced out of business.
A group of more than 30 investors, mostly local doctors, has proposed building a hospital complex next to Bacone College.
Last week, developers were one vote short of getting appropriate zoning for the project from the Muskogee City Council. The matter is before the council again, but the city's staff says the requested zoning does not conform with the community's master plan.
The council may also seek a second opinion on whether the hospital is really needed.
Mayor Hershel McBride says he's considering whether Muskogee needs additional guidelines requiring developers to show a need for such an operation.
