(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Attorney General Drew Edmondson is taking himself out of the race for US Senate.
Edmondson, a Democrat, said Wednesday he won't run for the seat held by retiring Republican Senator Don Nickles.
Edmondson says polls show he could win the Democratic nomination and the general election in 2004. But he says he'll stay on as attorney general for professional and personal reasons.
That leaves Representative Brad Carson of the 2nd Congressional District as the only well-known Democrat who plans to run.
Tuesday, Kirk Humphreys said he is quitting as Oklahoma City mayor to seek the GOP nomination. Republican state Senators Jim Dunlap of Bartlesville and Mike Fair of Oklahoma City also are considering running.
