People in rural Rogers County say they're being overwhelmed with stray animals. Residents like Karin Loyd say too many people are dumping unwanted pets in rural areas.
The Rogers County Humane Society held a town hall meeting to talk about the problem. It hopes to initiate a spay and neuter program and an informational campaign. It also wants to build a permanent animal shelter.
Pet owner Karin Loyd, "It's horrible. It's out of control. There are so many people they are moving and can't take them, or whatever, but instead of calling us or taking them to the shelter, they just dump them off at somebody's work or in somebody's yard."
Rogers County Sheriff’s deputies agree too many animals are dumped in rural areas. They say it's extremely difficult to catch any animal owner in the act of dumping a pet.
