(Pawnee-AP) -- Comic strip detective Dick Tracy will celebrate his 72nd birthday Saturday in Pawnee.
The famous detective was created by Pawnee native Chester Gould and first appeared on October fourth, 1931, in the Chicago Tribune.
The celebration will include cake, balloons and tours of the Dick Tracy exhibit at the Pawnee County Society Museum. A parade begins at 10 Saturday morning featuring 60 to 70 police cars from across Oklahoma and vintage automobiles.
Gould drew the Dick Tracy comic strip until he retired in 1977. He died in 1985 and is buried in Woodstock, Illinois.
