OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Gov. Brad Henry has begun meeting with business officials from companies across the nation to encourage them to bring new jobs to the state, his office said Thursday.

Business leaders and company representatives were invited to meet with state economic development planners and policy makers this week as part of an event organized by the state Department of Commerce and private sector sponsors.

Henry met with event participants Wednesday night and Thursday in Oklahoma City and will travel to Tulsa on Friday to continue discussions.

``This event is all about promoting Oklahoma and encouraging economic development,'' he said. ``It gives me an opportunity to make a pitch for new jobs, in addition to thanking Oklahoma business leaders for all they do for our state.''
