Tulsan will help track damage from Hurricane Isabel

Some folks in North Carolina were told to leave their homes by Tuesday. And while they're moving out, a weather expert from Tulsa is flying into the hurricane's target zone. News on 6 anchor Terry Hood has more on his mission.

The National Weather Service is calling in experts from all over the country to help track Hurricane Isabel's damage. And a Tulsa meteorologist is one of them. Although Hurricane Isabel seems to be weakening, East Coast residents aren't taking any chances.

They're boarding up homes in North Carolina, stocking up on supplies in New Jersey, and pulling boats ashore near Virginia Beach. And while all of this is going on, the head of Tulsaâ€™s National Weather Service office is preparing to move in.

Steve Piltz has been tracking Hurricane Isabel from the National Weather Service office for several days now. He flys out to the East Coast Wednesday. Piltz will work with a team of meteorologists to survey the damage after the storm. "Our goal is primarily public service minded to go learn as much as we can about the storm so we can better prepare the public the next time the storm strikes."

Piltz spent a number of years in Key West, and has lived through several hurricanes in his career.
