The pay raise Tulsa teachers missed out on last year is coming back, two-fold. The Tulsa School Board has approved a contract that gives teachers some much-anticipated cash.

The average teacher will receive two checks for $500. One check is for this year's pay raise, the other for last year's. The teacher raises will cost the district more than $2.5-million, which is quite do-able as long as the state budget picture continues to improve.

Tulsa School Board president Michael Pierce, "we're giving raises today and actually its just so small compared to the costs that have gone up in their personal lives."

Teacher's insurance alone jumped by 17% in the last year. That could eat up as much as $500, or one year's pay raise.
