(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Oklahoma's former top financial officer is helping organize an economic research group that will promote economic development in the state.
Tom Daxon, former state finance director, hopes Opportunity Oklahoma will be able to work with pro-business legislators of both parties when the Legislature convenes in February.
Daxon already is working on economic issues involving health care and rural economic development as the organization continues raising money for operations.
Daxon is a Republican who was Oklahoma's first state auditor and inspector when the office was created in the 1970s. He served eight years as former Governor Frank Keating's finance director.
Daxon is Opportunity Oklahoma's executive director.
