Deadly stretch of I-35

(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A 27-mile stretch of Interstate 35 in southern Oklahoma City has had 1,888 traffic accidents over the past three years.
A Department of Transportation study shows that wrecks on I-35 from southern Oklahoma City to Purcell have killed 29 people and injured another 1,159 since August first 2000 through July 31st.
The study found that 342 collisions, including a fatal wreck, happened in the construction areas on I-35 from Crossroads Mall to Purcell.
A total of 113 wrecks in construction zones along the route have injured 186 people. Another 228 work-zone collisions have resulted in property damage.
Construction that has slowed traffic on I-35 will continue. A widening project is expected to be completed in March.
Another project on Interstate 35 in southern Oklahoma City is expected to begin in November.
