(Tulsa-AP) -- The president's nominee to head the US Environmental Protection Agency plans to visit a contaminated site in northeastern Oklahoma.
Utah Governor Mike Leavitt will visit the Tar Creek Superfund Site following his confirmation as head of the EPA.
Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe announced the visit, saying Leavitt accepted his invitation to tour the area.
The visit will be the second by high-ranking EPA officials.
Region Six Administrator Mayor Richard Greene will visit the area on Friday with Congressman Brad Carson. Greene will also attend a town hall meeting with residents.
Land in the Tar Creek area is contaminated after decades of lead and zinc mining.
