A Tulsa woman was killed Monday morning after she was thrown from her car after an accident.

The accident happened on US Highway 75 at about 176th Street North. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say the 21-year-old driver was traveling southbound, when she drove off the road and flipped her car. She wasn't wearing her seatbelt and was thrown several feet.

Trooper Vern Wilson says this is a tragedy that happens all to often and can be prevented. "Statistics show that you have at least a 50% better survival rate if you’re wearing your safety belt. There's no question in my mind that if this young lady had been wearing her safety belt today that she would have received some injuries, rather than being transported to the medical examiners office."

The victim's name has not been released.
