Sentence handed down in Tax Commission scheme

(Oklahoma City-AP) -- An owner of a truck registration business has been given a five-year sentence and ordered to pay more than $80,000 in restitution for his role in a scheme to use Oklahoma Tax Commission dollars for personal use.

An Oklahoma County district judge sentenced Daniel Kiplinger Monday, with four years of the sentence suspended. He has been barred from doing business with or being employed by the state.

Kiplinger pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy against the state on April 16th.

His case is part of an ongoing investigation by a multicounty grand jury.

Investigators alleged several tax commission employees conspired to submit invoices from the Tax Commission or Kiplinger's business, Expert Prorating Incorporated, to trucking companies for the amount of taxes the companies owed.

They then allegedly created fraudulent bills containing amounts less than the invoices that were sent and pocketed the difference.
