PADEN, Okla. (AP) _ The sheriff of Okfuskee County shot and killed a man who walked out of his house with a shotgun during a standoff.
The dead man's name wasn't released pending notification of next of kin.
The shooting occurred after Sheriff James C. Fox and a deputy responded to a domestic disturbance call about 5 a.m. in Paden, said Jessica Brown, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman.
The man's common-law wife was gone by the time Fox arrived, Brown said. Fox and other law officers negotiated with the man about two hours before he walked out of the house carrying the shotgun, Brown said.
That's when the man was shot, she said.
The man died at a nearby hospital.
