(Colbert-AP) -- A south Oklahoma police officer has been fired and is under investigation by the F-B-I after punching a 67-year-old man who led him on a high-speed chase.
Colbert officer Richard Wyrick hit James Doyle Murray in the face inside a convenience store in Denison, Texas, on July 21st. Murray was taken to a local hospital and has since been released.
Wyrick's report says he began chasing Murray's car after seeing it in the middle of a highway in Colbert. Wyrick says the chase reached speeds of 110 miles per hour before Murray stopped at the convenience store.
The report says Murray walked to the store acting as if he didn't hear Wyrick yelling at him. Wyrick says he followed Murray and grabbed the man's arm when Murray swung at him.
Wyrick says he ducked the punch and hit Murray once in the jaw.
The incident was caught on the store's video system.
