(Tahlequah-AP) -- The body of a newborn baby has been found in a box alongside a state highway in northeastern Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says the infant's body was found about 9 last night alongside State Highway 82 south of Tahlequah.

The body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Tulsa and the O-S-B-I and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
