(Tulsa-AP) -- The state is changing its standardized tests for next year to better assess student performance.

Oklahoma is ending its arts test and moving the state-mandated geography test from eighth grade to seventh grade after the passage of House Bill 1414.

Officials say the geography test is being moved because students are taught the subject in seventh grade and should be tested then.

The arts test did not accurately assess knowledge in such a diverse category and a state task force is reevaluating a way to test art.

Teachers say these changes are necessary to show proper student performance
