(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry has issued a Red Flag Fire Alert across much of the state.

The department says hot, windy conditions combined with low rainfall have caused a high to extreme fire danger, especially in central and western Oklahoma.

Fires may ignite easily, spread quickly and be difficult to control.

The department advises people in central and western Oklahoma to avoid burning anything outdoors whenever wind exceeds 20 miles per hour.
